God's Standard: Loving God's Way

by Nancy J. Lewis, MS, PHR

In today’s fast paced, ever changing world, we are bombarded with the complexities of life and find ourselves extremely busy often forgetting to show love to others.  Our thoughts are often I got my mess to deal with and I can’t handle anything else. That’s the time we need to sacrifice because that’s what Jesus did for us. Jesus didn’t have to go to the cross for us but he loved us so much he did anyway. That’s sacrifice and love!

The reality of life is people are hurting all around us and need to know that someone cares. People need to know that others accept them where they are and will love them unconditionally, the agape love. We must develop our love walk as love can grow and develop because it is a fruit of the Spirit, and fruit grows. We must constantly work to make sure the fruit of love is operating in our life and ask ourselves in every situation What Would Jesus Do?

I Corinthians 13:13 states, "And now abideth, faith, hope, charity, these three, but the greatest of these is charity."" Love is the foundation of everything we do because God is love. It is easy to love people in our circle that we know love us, but more difficult to love those who have hurt us. God’s standard says clearly in Matthew 5:44, But I say to you love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you." Who do you need to show or tell that you love them? The time is now for others to see God’s standard of love in operation in us.

As 2 Corinthians 5:17 states, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we cannot act like the world and do things the way we used to. We have to let the light of Christ shine brightly for all to see. We have to keep the flesh under subjection as the Spirit man has become new, but the flesh has to catch up.

I challenge you to find those people in your life that you have had problems forgiving and ask God to help you in this area. There is nothing to hard for God. He can make the impossible possible, the invisible visible. Trust him and let him have your heart and commit to God’s standard of love.
